Haibin Niu received his Ph.D. in international relations at Fudan University in 2006. Currently he is an Associate Research Fellow, Deputy director of Institute for Foreign Policy Studies, both at Shanghai Institutes for International Studies. He is also vice secretary general of Chinese Association for Latin American Studies, reviewer of several academic journals including Contexto Internacional, Brazilian Journal of International Relations, and Meridiano 47.

Dr. Niu has published articles and books including  “Regionalism in Asia: a Constructivist Explanation”, “Three Variables of European Governance: Sovereignty, Democracy and Identity”, “Beyond Zero-Sum, Towards Win-Win: Comparative Analysis of Sino-US National Interests after the Iraq War”, “Debates on China’s International Responsibilities”, "Review on Brazil's Great Power Status", "Emerging Global Partnership: Brazil and China", "'De-industrialization' Issue and Sino-Brazilian Relationship," "A Grande Estratégia Chinesa e os BRICS," "Review and Forward-looking on BRICS Cooperation," "Strategic Nature of Sino-Latin American Relationship in New Era," "How to Review Slowdown of BRICS," "Great Power Dream of Brazil," and "Party Diplomacy with Chinese Characteristics," etc.. He is currently working on Brazil’s foreign policy and cooperation among major developing countries.

He has been a visiting scholar at GIGA (June-August, 2016), CSIS (April-June, 2014), BRICS Policy Center in Rio de Janeiro (October-November, 2012), New York Office of FES (October-November, 2011), Stellenbosch University and South African Institute of International Affairs (July-September, 2011), and George Washington University (August-October, 2005). He participated in “Managing Global Governance” programme in Germany and did his practice phase at Heiligendamm Dialogue Process Support Unit/OECD in Paris January-June, 2008. From September 2010 to July 2011, he worked at Foreign Affairs Office, Shanghai Municipal Government. He worked at China International Import Expo Bureau in 2018.
