Introduction

Professor Wu Jinan, Senior Fellow of the Institute for Taiwan, Hong Kong & Macao Studies, SIIS. Prof. Wu Jinan used to work as Director of the Department of Japanese Studies at SIIS. He is also the President of Shanghai Association of Japanese Studies. Prof Wu published widely on Japan’s domestic politics, Japan’s foreign relations with other countries. His most recent publications include Japan: Domestic and Foreign Policies of the Democratic Party of Japan (Beijing: Current Affairs Press, 2014); Research on Japan’s Foreign Strategy in the New Century (Beijing: Current Affairs Press, 2010); Japan-Taiwan Relations after the Cold War (Shanghai: Shanghai People’s Press, 2009); “Bottlenecks” in Sino-Japanese Relations (Co-author, Beijing: Current Affairs Press, 2004); New-Generation Statesmen and Stateswomen of Japan (Editor, Beijing: Current Affairs Press, 2004);New-Generation Statesmen and Stateswomen of Japan (Beijing: Current Affairs Press, 2002);At the Gate of New Century (Editor, Shanghai Education Publisher, 1998); Perception of Japan from Asia ( Japan Kawade Syobo Publisher, 1994); “Japan’s Politicians of A New Generation: Their Emergence and Implication” ( Journal of Japanese Studies, No.5, 1996). Prof. Wu was a visiting fellow at Japan’s National Institute for Research Advancement from 1989 to 1990. From 1994-1995, he was a visiting scholar at Department of International Affairs, University of Tokyo.
