On December 10, 2020, the Shanghai Institutes for International Studies collaborated with the Center for International Security and Strategy, Tsinghua University to host the symposium of “New Perspectives on China’s U.S. Strategy”. Ambassador Fu Ying, Chairman of CISS, delivered welcome and opening remarks for the symposium. SIIS President Chen Dongxiao moderated the symposium and made a presentation on “Historical Insights on China-U.S. Relations”. Other Chinese participants include Dr. Da Wei, Adjunct Senior Fellow of CISS, Dr. Zhou Bo, Senior Fellow of CISS, Dr. Wang Guoxing, Senior Research Fellow of Center for American Studies of SIIS, Dr. Ye Yu, Assistant Director of Institute for World Economy Studies of SIIS, Dr. Su Liuqiang, Research Fellow of SIIS and Dr. Li Yanliang, Research Fellow of SIIS, etc. On the American side, Elizabeth C. Economy, C. V. Starr senior fellow and director for Asia studies at the Council on Foreign Relations, Karl W. Eikenberry, former US Ambassador to Afghanistan and Lieutenant General, U.S. Army (retired), Non-Resident Fellow at Liechtenstein Institute on Self-Determination, Princeton University, Stephen J. Hadley, former Assistant to the President for National Security Affairs, principal of RiceHadleyGates LLC, Board Chair of the United States Institute of Peace (USIP), Joseph Nye, University Distinguished Service Professor and former Dean of the Kennedy School of Government at Harvard University, and Douglas Paal,Vice-president for studies and director of the Asia Pro-gramme at the Carnegie Endowment for International Peace participated in the symposium. Both sides agreed that two countries should strengthen coordination in the service of advancing shared interests and addressing common challenges at the bilateral, regional, and global levels.
